So this is pretty exciting. I’m on the Hillside Inside committee (a winter derivative of the Hillside Festival which is a 3-day festival in Guelph Ontario). I’m on the Hillside Inside committee (a winter derivative of the Hillside Festival which is a 3-day festival in Guelph Ontario). We needed to come up with a concept for our 2011 branding so we could get an ad out asap and into the Hillside Festival summer program.
In 2011, Hillside Inside is going to be more like Montreal Pop or NXNE and totally integrated into downtown venues. In this concept, we wanted to showcase some of our beautiful downtown architecture and convey the idea of Hillside sweeping around downtown and filling the streets. So with that, I figured we could acheive the effect using my friend and photographer Karolina Kuras and one of her techniques using sparklers. So the crazy swirls you see are me running through an alley in the middle of the night.
In the winter, we’ll keep the concept going but get some good Ontario snow in the shot too.

Here’s some more images of the items I put together for my wedding with my partner Jenn – I think the stuff that comes out of being your own client is so fun. I illustrated the caricatures of us which I turned into a silkscreen for our table cloths and wine bottles (tricky!) and also a giant stamp for envelopes and thank you cards. I designed the poster but had it silkscreened by Tweed Studio. The cake toppers were pretty hilarious, I took 2 regular cake toppers, took a dremel to their hair bun and painted them to better suit our taste. ha!

So yeah, this is my own wedding invitation…I changed some of it for online use (not everyone needs to know where the reception will be!) I illustrated them, designed them, then had them silkscreened…they’re awesome. We went for posters since it’s pretty original and works with my type of work. I also had a giant stamp made of our heads so people would just see this brown envelope with our giant heads stamped in the corner…pretty awesome.

Finally the new website is up! It’s been a while in the making (and I think there’s still a few glitches out there) but otherwise I’m super happy with it. The searching, programming and adaptation of suitable scripts was definitely a challenge at times, though fun to learn and see my skills advance and have [...]]]> Finally the new website is up! It’s been a while in the making (and I think there’s still a few glitches out there) but otherwise I’m super happy with it. The searching, programming and adaptation of suitable scripts was definitely a challenge at times, though fun to learn and see my skills advance and have everything turn out wonderfully in the end. The site uses .php, .jquery and has a blog integrated into the design this time (instead of having it hosted on a different domain.)
Many thanks to my associates Jenn Harris at Lucid Pulp for her writing and editing skills, and Karolina Kuras for the incredible portfolio photos. It’s really amazing what you can do with a great team behind you!
